There are 5 maps and at first I will explain about Higashiyama Course. The map covers not only east mountain area but Yamashina basin which is east of the mountain range and also west portion of Biwa lake. Therefore you can go mt.Otowayama from where you can see Kyoto basin and Biwa lake in a panorama. Also you can walk along Biwa lake canal which supply water to Kyoto basin from Biwa lake along foot of north mountains of Yamashina basin.
More detail maps are available at Keihan Stations freely, but those are written mostly in Japanese.
So you can use those as secondarily.

(1) Demachi Yanagi which shows north area of east mountains.
(2) Higashiyama (means east mountains) which shows main mountain area.
(3) Fushimi area which is rather south area of kyoto and including momoyama castle on east hill.

Most temples and shrines are situated along foot of east mountains. And those are also written down on the Higashiyama map. Major temples and shrines from south side to north are as follows.

Usually I feel strange that most regionous people of Japan do not know difference between Temple and shrine. Even if some knows the difference, they do not understand the difference between Buddism and Shinto. However they go to temples to pray to Budda statue and on next day same people go to shrine to pray to so many icons such as old heros, failed Emperors, generals and foxes.
So, I would not pray to anything, and only enjoy big wood constructions, beautiful senery and history of those.
By the way, it's cost much to play with maikos at Gion, so recentry priests of temples and shrines are very good guests for maikos. Temples and Shrines of Kyoto get so many money from tourists and they need not pay tax. Perhaps it is the truth of the religion.

Kyoto central area
People born in Kyoto central city area are very proudy. They never allow "people born in Uji, Fushimi and Arashiyama" say that they were born in Kyoto. For Kyoto central person think that Kyoto central city area is only Kyoto and other area of Kyoto prefecture is not Kyoto. For example, when I try to promote about Hirakata city in tripadviser's Kinki-forum,  Kyoto people never allow it and they delete my contribution. They think that Kinki forum is for Kyoto central city people and not for other district in Kinki area. Many Kyoto people believing that capital city of Japan is still Kyoto. My wife once entered in a restaurant in Kyoto city, and she was denied to serve meal to her. After that my wife is still angry for Kyoto people. This is not only my wife's opinion, but there is a famous best seller's book named "Hate Kyoto (people)". So many people are same with my wife. I would not say "hate", but say "don't like Kyoto".
However I must introduce Kyoto city central area for my guest because Kyoto person may be know well about Kyoto central city area, however would not know suverb area and transportations around Kyoto. For example for tourists arrived at Kansai Airport,  They only introduce to use JR line only for comming directry to Kyoto as soon as posible without considering cost or enjoying train travel. They are stubborn as donkey.

To see around the city area, bus is most usuful even if very crowded. One day pass for bus is 600yen and you can buy it at bus terminal of Kyoto station. Alo you can get bus route map in English and Chinese and Korean at there freely.
Hankyu Railway run through Kyoto from west to east near Kamo river. Keihan railway run along eastmountain range. Shijyo station of Kehan railway is near the terminal station named Kawaramachi of Hankyu Railway.
