It takes about 30 min from Osaka City area of Keihan Railway. I have not any car, so I can only lead you to my guesthouse and help you to bring your luggage. I f you go to Kyoto tour next day, It is better for you to buy "tickets to Hirakata Kouen station" and also "Kyot- Osaka 1 day discount pass 800yen or 2days pass 1,200yen " for next days. The passes are sold only foreighner and sold at Osaka area station of Keihan Railway or KIX. There are many hot springs in Kinki not only Hot spring resorts such as famous Kinosaki and Arima. Famous hot spring resorts have a big capacity of hot spring water, so there are many accomodations and shops for guests. Therefore those area have special atmosphere as hot spring resorts to atract tourists such as old streetscapes and local shops. If you enjoy only to go into hot spring and enjoy near view points different of those of resorts, you need not stay in such famous hot spring resort. About  Town walk and maps in Kyoto, Nara and Osaka, There are many books in book stores. Those book are named as " Town walk in Kyoto", "Town walk in Nara" and "Town walk in Osaka". However those are written in Japanese. But there are many pictures and arrow marks about town walk's routes on those, so if you get detail information from host about starting point, and train, you can walk following the maps.
