heritage of Kyoto ; Fushimi

Fushimi area is located in south of Kyoto city .
Most foreigners do not visit there. But the area is very interesting area.
Hideyoshi de Toyotomi mede up the area to orderly street when he constructed Fushimi Cassle.
And he call teh place "Fushimi".
After Hideyoshi period, in Tokugawa period the street spreaded to west low area.
There was a big pond called Ogura at south of Fushimi.  Uji river flew into the pond.
Before second war, all the the pond area was dryed up using pomps. Therefore the area is still low level, so if dam of Uji river is broken, there should appear a big pond. Actualy after second war, the dam was broken, and there appeared a big pond once.
Anyway, from above conditions, Fushimi area is kept in helitage of Kyoto. However also from above reasons Fushimi area is kept in old town and so very interesting area.
A canal from Biwa lake to Kyoto was constructed  in Meiji era after Tokugawa era more than 10km.
It through mountain between Biwako area and Yamashina basin area by tunnel then through side of mountain of Yamashina, then through mountain between Kyoto and Yamashina by tunnel.
And Canal along East mountain of Kyoto from north to west. the canal end at south end of Fushimi, called Cyuusyojima. and there boats were down to UJI-Rriver  So, many kind of goods are transported through the canal between Biwa lake area , Kyoto and also Osaka through Uji river and Yodo river.you can see old streets of Fushimi and also beautiful canal view around Cyuusyojima.
Map of the area and view points are shown in this.
